The world is experiencing a deep economic crisis. The future in EU is still uncertain and growth and the effects of the present economic crisis will stay for a long time. Moreover, extreme events associated with environmental, social, political and economic changes are expected in the next decades as human population continues to grow fast, leading to an intensive use of resources and a marked gap between rich and poor. In this context it is urgent to address issues related to the economic resilience of European regions. The Network for the Study of Economic Resilience of Regions (NSERR) is an emergng network that will integrate a variety of competencies in scientific areas to effectively address the economic resilience of city regions, defined as the ability of a region to withstand shocks to one or more its sectors by redirecting its knowledge capabilities and resources in an effective and efficient manner. |
